As part of the refurbishment of the Merseyrail fleet, a new livery was designed for Merseytravel. In keeping with the modernised appearance of the trains at the time, the new livery marked a significant departure from the previous yellow and white colour schemes. This was also the first Merseyrail livery to use vinyls as opposed to traditional paint.
Merseyrail is an urban network of vital importance to the transport infrastructure of the Liverpool City Region, operating on the Wirral and Northern lines. It is one of the most punctual and reliable railway networks in the UK.
A silver/metallic grey was used as the base colour for the livery. The traditional and very recognisable Merseytravel yellow was applied at the outer ends of driving carriages to symbolise movement and on the doors to make them easier to see for passengers waiting to board.
